Mayfield High in Las Cruces will go remote following 'secret prom;' investigation underway

Mayfield High School will switch to remote learning for 10 days beginning Friday, April 16 while Las Cruces Public Schools investigates a so-called "secret prom" held Saturday.

The closure of the school building extends through Monday, April 26.

District officials say the switch to remote learning is to mitigate any potential spread of COVID-19 and comes under advisement from state education and health officials.

Students who attended could face repercussions ranging from academic suspensions to being barred from attending future school events such as graduation, according to Kelly Jameson, the district's spokesperson.
